Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
thought for the day: “I was pleased to win my squash game on Thursday evening; despite getting outplayed by a better opponent, I still found a way to win”
Leopardstown- 3.40 Dundory
Dundory is not badly treated reading his maiden form at face value with his Ballinrobe third to Mister Matuta a particularly noteworthy effort. Could enjoy slog in tough conditions and make most of his light weight.
Leopardstown 4.50- Legal Spin and Mujid
Legal Spin has not progressed from initial promise in 2018 or indeed his respectable second over two miles on his seasonal bow this campaign. It does not make any logical sense to recommend him today but I have a gut feeling there is more in this horse and today he has the benefit of a seven pound claim from Joey Sheridan who scored on a similar type on the Cesarewitch.
Sometimes you get funny results this time of year and you just never know this could be one here.
The horse who may go on to emerge as the best of these in time is Mujid. He has shaped with glimmers of promise under tender handling at times earlier in the summer and was not disgraced in a better race than this on the Friday of the Galway festival. Coming from the family of useful hurdler Numide he could improve over middle distances and cannot be dismissed granted concerns whether he will have the stomach for it today .
Cheltenham 2.00- Back To The Thatch
Was touted as a staying prospect last campaign and recorded a few fair efforts at both Chepstow and Haydock. Appeared a non stayer in last start in Midlands National and could be reinvented as more of a three miler this new season as opposed to a 4 mile horse. Early rainfall will be music to the ears of connections and this lightly raced type could show his true worth here.
