Steve Hughes has a single selection for Sunday
A pretty ordinary day of racing in Britain on Sunday with a host of class 4 contests. I have one selection for one of those at Sedgefield from a horse used to contesting races at a higher level. We had a very solid Saturday at Cheltenham with victories for Santini (advised 2/1) and Harry Senior (advised 9/2) plus a second place for each-way bet Spiritofthegames (SP 9/1)
Sedgefield 3.30: Lord Brendy
Now aged twelve and with only two races since 2016, there is no doubt that Lord Brendy is on the downgrade. However trainer Rebecca Menzies is really making a name for herself as an up and coming trainer in the North of England and if anyone can get the veteran back into form it is her.
He was ultimately beaten 51l by Benarty Hill at Catterick last month, but that margin of defeat did not do him justice as he was bang there turning for home until getting tired. That run was s till a big improvement on his return to the track the previous month and he ought to be reaching peak fitness for this third outing.
He was a pretty decent performer around 2014 and 2015, winning a class 3 at Kelso before placing a good fourth at Aintree. Injury has taken its toll since, but he has dropped 30lbs in his four runs since Aintree and first time cheekpieces have been applied today.
0.5pts each-way – Lord Brendy – 3.30 Sedgefield – 8/1 general
