Must be Moon at Galway

Ray Flanagan with Sunday Galway selections

We reach the climax of another enthralling weeks racing and while we enjoyed the action we welcome the conclusion of it too. A person can now look forward to a little break from the racing for a few days.

Hoping to sign off the week on a positive note.

Galway 4.20- The Ahonoora Handicap- Flaming Moon and On a Session

Njord is the obvious choice and most likely winner; however it is prudent to be sceptical of taking too short a price in such a competitive heat as the “Ahonoora” and with that in mind we will seek out a bit of value.

A full moon is coming this Monday night and perhaps Flaming Moon will represent the three-years olds well from the foot of the handicap. There was plenty to like about both his initial and latest efforts at The Curragh where he ran respectably despite being somewhat inconvenienced by the draw on both occasions. Pedigree suggests stepping up in trip will not be a problem and could be better handicapped than most.

On A Session was a bit disappointing in the McDonagh Handicap on Tuesday but may be a more potent force over 7 furlongs. He ran a cracker to be runner-up twelve months ago and could go close again.

Galway 5.50- Born By The Sea

Born By The Sea is selected to defy top-weight and make it third time lucky following two placed efforts already this week. He has arguably the best form overall based on placings to the likes of Royal Illusion last year and Mount Leinster the other evening. A strong stayer he could stretch them from the front on this rain softened ground and prove hard to catch.
