Ray Flanagan with Leopardstown selections
Der Mac (14-1) got our snouts in front for September in the previous column.
A cracking card at Leopardstown part of a double header for Irish Champions weekend and a few selections.
One of the great races of the year, the Petingo Handicap at Leopardstown.
Durable dual purpose performer has often ran well in big races under both codes but generally finds it hard to win. After watching numerous fine hurdle efforts in 2020, leaf this observer with the definite impression that a big flat handicap should be within her compass.
Was runner up in the corresponding race behind Kastasa last year and may benefit from encountering quicker ground today having struggled to fully last home in her races on heavy recently. Trip and conditions look ideal here and after many false dawns maybe today will be Buildmeupbuttercup’s day.
Leopardstown 4.45- Vatican City
Disappointing on latest two starts but plausible excuses. Better judged on fine Irish Guineas effort behind push button Siskin. Vatican City remains a talented horse and can start making up for lost time here.
Leopardstown 5.50-Breaking Story and Agitare
Breaking Story was unlucky in the Ahonoora at Galway and backed that up with a decent effort in the Irish Cambridgeshire where arguable seen too much daylight to early. Ideally positioned here drawn 8 in big field and every chance of a big effort.
Agitare has been on my radar for a while and could go close on this occasion. Jim Bolger’s charge boasts good form in dent maidens and will be better served by ground conditions here than when on handicap debut in Irish Cambridgeshire.
