Ray Flanagan with Naas Racing selections
thought for the day: The Sunday of the Birdcatcher Nursery at Naas (although the race may have a different name now) is one that always sticks in my mind with the words of my Father proclaiming “once the birdcatcher is over the winter is in”
Speaking of winter a very uncertain one lies ahead. I for one am hoping that the number of Covid cases can be brought under control and that once again we can have our freedom.
Njord (9-1) was a winner at Ascot yesterday gaining a deserved pot after a few near misses.
Three selections for a small interest this afternoon.
Naas 4.15- Yaxeni and Shamiyna
Yaxeni has not really progressed from a promising third behind One Voice at Leopardstown in early summer but may be worth considering here. Ger Lyons filly has contested some hot company in the interim running in the Irish Oaks and she was not disgraced when shaping like a non stayer over 14 furlongs at this venue most recently. She remains fresher than most and might produce a career best here.
Shamiyna is an unexposed sort who has a bit to find on the ratings but may be open to further progress . She impressed winning at Killarney two starts ago beating Lugnaquilla relatively easily and since followed up with a six length verdict over Princess Yaiza in a four runner conditiosn event. Comes from the right quarters and may have a say again stepping up in class.
Naas 4.50- Aared
A speculative shot with an old favourite here- the Kevin Prendergast trained Aared. The son of Shamardal is slipping down the handicap and while he needs to improve considerably on 2020 efforts he has a decent record fresh previously and is too well handicapped to let go without some investment at a big price.
