Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
A poor Saturday on the racing front although the flip side of that is we are not enticed to have too many bets. A couple of darts at Sandown’s featured Veterans Chase.
Sandown 3.00 Strong Pursuit and Burtons Well
Strong Pursuit is much more unexposed than most of these and could easily be the best handicapped. Philip Hobbs eleven-year old has had light campaigns evidently proving difficult to train, but the pick of his efforts give him a chance. He ran pleasingly over the course and distance back in February 19 jumping boldly and travelling like the best horse for most of the race. He should improve for a beleted comeback run recently at Warwick and if he can see out the trip fully could be the winner.
Venetia Williams usually comes to the fore when conditions are testing and with that in mind perhaps her representative Burtons Well could have a chance. Burtons started a much shorter price when disappointing in the corresponding race last year but clearly has plenty of ability on his day. A repeat of his success at Doncaster in February would give him every chance and there is the possibility that first-time blinkers will work the oracle today.
