Bradley Wiggins is as low as 1/8 in the betting to be crowned Tour de France winner as the riders begin Stage 16 from Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon.
Today’s stage is the first of two big mountain days in the Pyrenees and if Wiggins can maintain his lead over these two days then he is certain to claim his first Tour win.
Much of the focus will be on Wiggins and his major rival Cadel Evans so it may allow a break of riders to go for the stage win.
Likely contenders to form the break and go for the stage win include Egoi Martinez (80/1), Thomas Voeckler (50/1) and Sandy Casar (50/1). All three are worth backing with narrow preference for the Team Europcar rider Thomas Voeckler who has already a stage win to his name.
Vincenzo Nibali leads the betting for Stage 16 and that is on the basis that he is very good on a quick descent but he may not be in that breakaway group of rider for that to matter today.
