The Strictly Come Dancing semi final is here. Five celebrities and their professional dance partners are fighting to be told on Sunday night that they’ll head through the show’s final. Our reality TV expert Brionny Leiper tells us who’ll be taking those steps on the final in a week’s time.
Most couples will be dancing one Latin and one Ballroom routine in a bid to win over the judges and get those rare 10 paddles waving in the air.
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor (11/4 to win with Bet365) and dance partner Brendan will be taking on the stomping Paso Doble and the graceful American Smooth. Sophie has a lot of public support behind her and she should make the final easily thanks to her relaxed attitude and almost ethereal performances.
The most improved celebrity is most definitely BBC Breakfast presenter Susanna Reid (2/1 with SkyBet). Susanna and partner Kevin take on the tricky Foxtrot this week, alongside the Salsa. They could be most at risk of ending up in the dance off as the public might think she’ll sail through. Juggling rehearsals, her early morning work and her children, Susanna deserves to be in the final.
As the last of the men, actor Patrick Robinson (25/1 with PaddyPower) has a lot to fight for. With partner Anya, Patrick will dance the Paso Doble and the Waltz. He will need to work on his movement in order for him to stay out of the dance. If he ends up there like last week, there’s no way the judges will send him through. He’s performed well up to now, but he’s reached his dancing peak.
If Abbey Clancy (4/1 with Ladbrokes) and partner Aljaz are not in the final, it will be an absolute outrage. Abbey has been fantastic for the beginning despite her lack of professional training. She has a natural talent that both Sophie and Susanna would kill for. Abbey and Aljaz will be dancing the American Smooth and the Samba this weekend.
The only contestant who will take on two Latin dances this week is actress Natalie Gumede (9/4 with BetFred) Natalie and Artem have two difficult dances in the shape of the Argentine Tango and Salsa. Based on Natalie and Artem’s past performances, the couple’s Argentine Tango should certainly merit extremely high marks from all four judges. Unfortunately, they could be one of the couples at risk of heading home. As the best couple in the competition, there’s no way they should be missing out on the final.
Patrick is the weakest dancer left in the competition as the girls all have the edge on him. An all girl final would not only be a sure fire ratings winner for the BBC, but it would make Strictly history.
