Actor Jake Wood was eliminated in yet another Strictly shocker. The last four couples standing are ready to battle it out on the dance floor. Our reality TV expert Brionny Leiper tells us who she thinks will be taking home the coveted glitterball trophy.
The Strictly final takes place over two shows this Saturday night with all four celebrity finalists performing two routines in the first show – a judges’ pick to be revealed live on the show and a Showdance, a routine that combines dances and steps the celebrities have learnt across the series. The finalist with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the beginning of the second show with the three remaining finalists going on to perform their favourite routine of the series.
The competition is unusually wide open at this stage. The only remaining celebrity who doesn’t stand a chance of winning is former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Mark Wright. This is despite the fact that he is easily the show’s most improved dancer and has a ‘journey’ the viewers generally gravitate towards. Mark and dance partner Karen’s Showdance has the potential to be a little manic and be all lifts and no dancing. They’ll be reviving their cheeky Samba if the votes allow them through to the second show.
The surprise of the night could come from Blue singer Simon Webbe. Simon has had a real rollercoaster of a Strictly ride, having delivered some fantastic performances with partner Kristina while also landing in the bottom two numerous times throughout the series. He has arguably the best Showdance song and has chosen his high-scoring Argentine Tango for his favourite routine. His popularity is in question but I wouldn’t rule him out. He’s worked hard and clearly battled some personal demons along the way.
The real battle looks to be between the two girls, Caroline and Frankie. Who’ll place higher?
TV presenter Caroline Flack and professional partner Pasha are the favourites to win the show and it’s not hard to see why. Caroline is easily the most talented of this year’s celebrities and her routines have consistently shown the correct footwork, beautiful arm and leg lines and the appropriate emotions of each dance. Caroline and Pasha will be performing their Showdance to Beverly Knight’s version of ‘Angels’ and have chosen to relive their Charleston if they stay in the competition, a routine that netted them 39 points out of the possible 40 back in Week 10. But favourites generally don’t win…
Hot on Caroline’s heels is The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge. Alongside dance partner Kevin, Frankie’s Fred and Ginger style Showdance to Judy Garland’s ‘Get Happy’ could be a real crowd-pleaser. They’ll bring out their fabulous West Side Story-inspired Paso Doble again if they are kept in the competition. You can’t forget that she is the only remaining celebrity who hasn’t been in the bottom two.
