Week 14 NCAAF best bets

Our college football handicapper Jeremy Degenhart gives us his best bets for Rivalry weekend.

Mississippi State @ Ole Miss

Rivalry games get weird, especially on the road. I’m not a fan of either side here. State should win handily, but Ole Miss’s defense is one of the best in football, and Prescott has shown a propensity to turn the ball over, throwing 8 picks in his last 4 games against teams not called Vanderbilt or UTM. Instead, I like the under. State should struggle to score, and we already have seen Bo Wallance and the Mississippi offense hit a brick wall after the loss of Laquon Treadwell.

Georgia Tech @ Georgia

Georgia Tech comes in on a 4 game winning streak, having dismantled everyone they’ve faced after a bad 2 game losing streak in the middle of the season. Georgia is in a bad spot, knowing they just lost out on a chance to win the SEC East with Missouri’s win yesterday. 12.5 is just too much for an inconsistent Georgia team to lay to an underrated GT squad.

Notre Dame @ USC

Notre Dame is a fraud. They’ve been unmasked over a stretch where they’ve lost 4 out of 5, with only a win @ Navy to show for it. QB Everett Gholson has thrown 9 interceptions in his last 4 road games, and the USC defense is as good as any team they’ve faced this year. Expect USC to dismantle an overrated and tanking Fighting Irish team.

Florida @ Florida State

FSU is 3-8 ATS and has somehow won too many games they should’ve lost. Florida is inconsistent and hard to figure out, but if there’s a day they’ll show up, it’s for a rivalry game in Will Muschamp’s last regular season game as head coach. This FSU team has proved time and again that they aren’t the juggernaut that they were last year, and it’s time to cash in on that.

Auburn @ Alabama

Auburn is a mess, Alabama is well into their postseason form. I don’t think Alabama wins in a blowout, but I think they win by 10-17 and coast into a #1 seed in the College Football Playoffs. They’ve had a year to dwell on being knocked out of the BCS Title game last year on the Kick-6 at Jordan-Hare…I can’t see any way Auburn wins or keeps it really close.
